THE NEXT EXCITING& INSPIRED

SOWETO FASHION WEEK

Created in 2011 as a platform for both established and upcoming South African fashion designers, and now in its sixth year, Soweto Fashion Week is soon to launch an inspiring collection of summer fashions from some of South Africa’s finest talent – including Nokwakha, Dejavu, Dope, Macgale, Precious Lulu and Fresh Wear.

The SFWSS18 Event will be held again at the Soweto Theatre from the 4th – 7th October.
Previous events at this venue have proved to be phenomenally successful, and the Soweto Theatre remains SFW’s core partner.

The support of new partners, YDE and ETV, promises to take this year’s SS event to even greater heights, continuing to celebrate and promote home-grown African style, talent and creativity in the fashion industry.

Once again, Principal Sponsor Darling Hair will be pulling out all the stops – while putting in all the knots. Darling will be infusing the event with their incredible African-themed hairstyles – inspired by South Africa’s rich Bantu hair traditions. Darling’s creativity will be taken to inspirational new levels this year with the incorporation of colourful, light and energetic spring/summer themes – complete with hibiscus flowers and other ‘it’s a fine summer day’ colours and accessories.

YDE (Young Designers Emporium) is also supporting SFW through its partnership in the event, as part of its Rising Talent Initiative.

Through its focus on promoting exceptional local fashion talent, the Young Designers Emporium has become an exemplary model of out-of-the-box success in supporting the careers of over 80 local clothing, footwear and accessory designers.

YDE is a an ideal partner for SFW as the two organizations share the same values for the exposure of new talent and showcasing top quality, edgy, original, locally designed and made clothing and accessories. YDE are also giving SFW’s featured young designers an on-going opportunity to be part of their Rising Talent Initiative with display and sales space in 21 of their stores countrywide.

With YDE onboard, SFW aims to set trends for the 2017/2018 summer season through the SS18 event and in so doing, support new, upcoming and established South African fashion designers – continuing to ‘change the face of  modeling and fashion week runways and grow the South African fashion industry’.

ETV’s involvement will also add a brand new, fresh extra dimension of glamour and fun to the event, through their ‘ETV Walk with the Stars Experience’. Held daily from the 4th– 7th, this will have SFW’s featured designers and models walking the catwalk together with their favorite actors and celebrities.

Soweto Fashion Week has grown from strength-strength with successful and well-attended bi-annual Autumn/Winter and Spring/Summer events. SFW is now an established brand on the Gauteng events calendar and in the South African fashion industry, and with this year’s continued sponsorship, high-profile partnerships and fresh fashion innovation, SFW is set to be a glittering, ‘not-to-miss’ affair.

In addition to that provided by Darling Hair, SFW continues to be sponsored by Gauteng tourism Johannesburg Tourism, Cape brewing co CBC, Soweto TV& the New age.
